I was on the grass flats just offshore in Key West Florida and I found myself with sharks and rays swimming close to my small boat. They stayed with me for a few minutes and then meandered away.
A woman milks a mare in the village of Kogershin in southern Kazakhstan. Recent archaeological studies have shown that the Botai people of the Eurasian steppes were the first to actively domesticate horses, 5,500 years ago.

The connection between a Dinka man and his cow is profound; it is part of his personal identity.
Upholstered with luminous sponges and corals, the bridge of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Duane attracts schools of smallmouth grunts—and divers. The ship was intentionally sunk in 1987 off Key Largo to create an artificial reef 120 feet (36 meters) deep.

The northern part of Malawi is known for the beauty of Nyika National Park. Less well documented but equally as stunning are the small villages of Henga Valley. While having lunch at the house of a villager in May 2010, I went on a tour of his pig stables. Six of his sows had recently given birth. He had not been at home when they did, however, and feral dogs killed several of the newborn piglets. Photograph by Tara McKay
